Today was spent going through my vast collection of salt and pepper shakers and placing some on ebay, I must admit some of these are hard to part with. While smoking these days is out of vogue I'm still drawn to the design of mid century smoking stands. These stand are both painted metal with amber glass ashtrays and the perfect height for a lounge chair. I'm sure a current house would find many uses for these stands as either a display piece or a holder of those small items you always need and can never find.

Do you remember all the wooden dishes and platters in the 1970's? They were shaped like apples, pineapples and pears and included a large selection of the more standard shapes of bowls and divided serving platters. And who could forget the large tiki forks and spoons hanging on the walls of many a fine home. These pieces were often made in the Philippines for export and lately these are making a bit of a come back with people embracing this tried and true look and getting back to natural products. The 1950's was a time when smoking was still glamorous and people used some very unusual products like cream based deodorant that works for 1 to 3 days or Vaseline shampoo and do it yourself permsYou also see some survivors like Cadbury Chocolate and Ribena and some ads you hope to never see in a modern magazine such as cures for Syphilis.
